5.6. SummaryIn this chapter, we have discussed signal generation techniques for impulse-based UWB communication systems. A comprehensive study of the different popularly used modulation formats and also some of the recent developments in UWB modulators are presented. The receiver designs for some of the major types of transmitters described here are discussed in detail in the next chapter. We have not talked about pulse shaping issues in UWB transmitter design, and assume that the pulses satisfy the FCC spectral mask. Further, channel coding, interleaving issues, and other advanced developments at the transmitter, such as space time coding and transmitter beamforming, are natural extensions for UWB transmitter systems. Appendix 10.B gives the IEEE 802.13.3a standard, which considers DS-UWB-based and MC-UWB-based transmitters. |
