Forest

One or more domain trees that do not form a contiguous namespace but share a common schema and configuration data. A forest can only support a single Exchange organization.

FQDN

Fully Qualified Domain Name, a DNS term that describes a host name plus the full path to the host that contains all domain memberships from left to right-for example, Windows2000.Engineering.hp.com.

FSMO

Flexible Single Master Operations (otherwise known as Operations Masters). There are five FSMO roles, also called operations masters, in a Windows forest. Two of these are forest-wide, while three are domain- wide. FSMOs are authoritative masters for specific functions, such as the PDC emulator or schema master, and are consulted by other DCs as the need occurs.
