Opportunities for Developers

 < Day Day Up >

This is an exciting time to be a developer. Significant feats can be accomplished with relatively little effort. Many advances have been made over the years that contribute to the accelerated environment. So, in a sense, you can stand on the shoulders of giants and wave your hands in the air saying, "Hey, look at me." Now, isn't that exciting?

Visual Studio.NET is a wonderful tool for creating powerful distributed applications. The upcoming versions will be even more powerful. They will be based on some exciting technologies coming out of Microsoft Research. Table 9.4 lists resources for developers looking for additional opportunities.

Table 9.4. Free online resources that can keep you informed of the latest research at Microsoft and some prestigious universities. Each of these sites allows you to sign up to receive e-mail notifications of new events or information.

Don't just settle for the traditional way of computing or the standard database-driven application. Find ways to give your users more natural interfaces and more customized computing experiences. Push the envelope, and don't be afraid to break new boundaries in your organization.
