How Do I Install the Practice Files?

The companion CD included in the back of this book contains the practice files that you will use to complete the procedures in this book and the skipped chap ter files for each chapter in this book (to allow you to begin this book at the beginning of any chapter). Installing the practice files requires approximately 50 MB of disk space. Follow these steps to install the practice files on your com puter s hard disk so that you can use them with the procedures in this book.

  1. Insert the CD in your CD-ROM drive. If a menu screen does not appear, double-click StartCD.exe in the root of the CD-ROM.

  2. Click the Install Practice Files option, and follow the prompts that appear on the screen.

  3. When the files have been installed, remove the CD from your CD-ROM drive and replace it in the package inside the back cover of the book.

A folder named Microsoft Press has been created at the root of your C drive that contains all of the practice files in a subfolder named SQL DTS SBS.

    Important

Before you begin, you must execute the BeforeYou Begin.cmd batch file from the C:\Microsoft Press\SQL DTS SBS folder to attach the SBS_OLTP database. This database is a copy of the English version of the Northwind database. This database is the online transac tional processing (OLTP) database that you will use as the source for some of the data that the data movement application will move into an online analytical database (OLAP).
