Using Categories to Control Access to Project Information

Project Web Access uses categories to limit the information a user can view.

To edit category information, from the Admin section, select Manage Security from the sidepane, and then select Categories. The Project Web Access security model can be summarized by the following:

  • Each category is assigned one or more views that members of the category can view.

  • Each category is assigned one or more resources who can access the views assigned to the category.

  • Each category is assigned one or more groups, and the users of these groups can access the views assigned to the category.

  • A resource can be assigned to one or more groups. Assigning resources to groups is optional.

  • Categories specify which projects and assignments its members can view.

Categories also control specific functionality in Project Web Access that pertains to the editing of project plans and enterprise resource data.
