The basic structure of HTML is simple: a passage of text surrounded by tags, which instruct the browser how to display that passage. For instance,
Here is a passage of <b>bold text</b> and <i>italic text</i>.
might look like this in a browser:
Here is a passage of bold text and italic text .
The tags dictate how the text they enclose will look in the browser when the browser reads the file. There are a lot of tags, which FrontPage will keep track of for you. Should you wish to use them yourself, here's how.
NOTE
An opening and closing tag together is called an element.
NOTE
The <p> tag is the most common element in HTML code. It stands for paragraph, and each paragraph of text must be surrounded by this element.
NOTE
Almost every tag in HTML requires a closing tag, so the browser will know when to stop applying a certain attribute. FrontPage will automatically create closing tags when needed.
