Building the Frames Page

Building the Frames Page

The most common way frames are used on Web sites is to create a navigation frame on one side of the page and a content frame on the other side. Sometimes, these frames are aligned top and bottom. Their sizes can vary wildly, too.

Frames are not difficult to create, but they can be tricky to keep track of. If you follow the steps in the following sections, you should be on your way to making frames in no time.

Creating Frames

While you can build a frames page at any point during the site-creation process, it's usually a good idea to build the site's content pages first, so you will have some content to fill those frames with.

Placing Content in Frames

Now that you have created a new frames page, you can now add some content to those frames. That content will take the form of average ordinary Web pages, which you will assign to each frame on the frames page.

Linking Between Frames

The useful thing about a navigation frame is that when you click on a link in the navigation frame, the content of that link will show up in the other frame on the page. Here's how to set that up.

Linking to Specific Frames

There may be times when you will want to click on a link in a frame and open up new content in that frame. Or maybe you will want to open content on a specific frame somewhere on the frames page. This is not too hard to do.
