Understand what data administrators are responsible for.     Data administrators are responsible for maintaining the object within the directory service and the resources that need to access them.

Understand data and service collaboration.     Collaboration of data and services specifies that administrators need to share responsibilities.

Understand data and service autonomy.     Data and service autonomy specifies that the administrative staff responsible for objects and resources has control over those resources but no peer administrative account will have any level of control. Higher-level administrative accounts will still have the ability to administer the resources however.

Understand data and service isolation.     With isolation, the data or service is completely separated from any other administrative group .

Identify design priorities.     Cost will be a major factor, but do not be afraid to override the cost issue if you need reliable or highly available solutions.

Know what an organization forest is.     An organization forest is built so that the organization s structure is the basis for the forest design.

Know what a resource forest is.     A resource forest is created to isolate resources that need to have specialized administrative control or the ability to function on their own.

Know what a restricted-access forest is.     A restricted-access forest is one in which no accounts from any other forest will have access to its resources.

Understand why a schema modification policy is required.     The schema is a vitally important component of Active Directory. Special care must be taken to approve any changes that affect the schema.

Know what makes up a change policy.     The change policy states what is required for planning and testing, who will make the schema modification, when the modification can be implemented, and where is should be implemented.
