Song Templates

 <  Day Day Up  >

A song template is an empty song that has all the routings and parameter settings you want to use already preconfigured.

Now that you know how to create a new song, route inputs, and sync to external MIDI gear, you may discover that it is a hassle to set up these parameters every time you begin a new song. The VS-1680 has preconfigured song templates for recording, mixing down, mastering, and bouncing already laid out for you under the EZ ROUTING button. You can customize these templates to your liking if you wish.

I have found another way ”in addition to EZ Routing ”to make song templates, and I find this method much easier to work with.

1.
Create a new song and set up all the routings, effects, and parameters that you normally use.

2.
Name that song something like Song Template using the Song Name function under SHIFT SONG NAME.

3.
Save that song to a CD-R.

Whenever you need to start working on a new song, just load the Song Template song from your external CD-R/W drive. When you are finished working on the song, change the name and save it to your hard drive.

If you don't have a CD-R/W drive, use the following steps:

1.
Create a new song and set up all the routings, effects, and parameters that you normally use.

2.
Name that song something like Song Template using the Song Name function under SHIFT SONG NAME.

3.
Save that song to the VS-1680's hard drive.

4.
Load the song from the hard drive.

5.
Hold SHIFT F1 (Song) F2 (New). This will create a new song.

6.
Set Copy System PRM and Copy Mixer/Scene PRM to On.

7.
Change the name of the newly created song and save it to the VS-1680's hard drive.

Something to Remember About Using Song Templates on Your Hard Drive

The VS-1680 does not have a Save As function. Changing the name of the template and then saving it does not protect the template on the hard drive from being written over. That is why you have to create a new song, change the name, and then save that to your hard drive.

Copying Effects Settings

Setting the Copy System PRM and Copy Mixer/Scene PRM On does not copy all effects settings. To get all your effects settings to copy to the new song, save them as a scene. When you create your new song with these parameters, the scene containing all your effects information will also be copied over. In the newly created song, select the scene that has the effects settings you want to use. You will learn about setting up scenes in Chapter 11.
