Song Optimize

 <  Day Day Up  >

Each time you record new material, hard disk space gets used, and historical entries are written out that serve as the basis for the Undo function. All of the Undo history is kept with a song until you perform the Song Optimize function.

Song Optimize removes all the historical records used by the Undo function. If you've done a lot of punch-ins or overdubs, the amount of hard drive space reclaimed after Song Optimize can be significant. The down side to Song Optimize is that you will not be able to undo any recording or editing done before the Song Optimize operation. Because of this, the VS will prompt you multiple times when you invoke the Song Optimize function, just to make sure you are really sure that you want to perform this function.

Although the manuals specifically state that you cannot undo the Song Optimize function, the VS will allow you to perform the undo. The problem is, if you do invoke the Undo function immediately after the Song Optimize function, all audio is removed. In this case, immediately performing the Redo function will bring all the audio back.
