Setting Input Levels

 <  Day Day Up  >

Now that we have our devices plugged in to the VS inputs and have routed those inputs to recording tracks, we need to set the input levels in the Input Mixer. The level of the signal coming in is controlled via the Input knob. Each analog input has a corresponding Input knob and peak indicator at the top of the recorder section. By default, the peak indicator will light up when the signal is greater than “6dB. You can change the level at which the peak indicator lights up via SYSTEM SYS System PRM? SYS Peak Level=.

Here's a simple approach to setting proper input levels in the Input Mixer:

1.
Play the instrument or sing into the microphone as you will during the recording.

2.
Adjust the Input knob for that physical input until the peak indicator light flashes and then turn the Input knob down a tad.

3.
Continue to play the instrument or sing into the microphone while monitoring the peak indicator. It should flash occasionally, and the level of the input in the display should be between “12dB and “4dB.
