2002: The VS-2480CD

Along with the announcement of the VS-1824CD, Roland also announced the new VS-2480CD (see Figure 1.9) in 2002. The VS-2480CD added a handful of features to the already popular VS-2480.

Highlights of the VS-2480CD

Like the VS-1824CD, the VS-2480CD added a built-in high-speed CD-R/RW drive for easy data backup and creation of audio CDs. The VS-2480CD also shipped with a massive 80GB hard drive, which provided more recording space than any other workstation on the market. The Version 2.0 operating system upgrade, which allowed for full support for external VGA monitor operations, was pre-installed on the VS-2480CD.

Software Upgrades

The VS-2480 and the VS-2480CD use the exact same operating system code. Since the introduction of the VS-2480CD, there have been a few operating system upgrades for the VS-2480.

In 2004, a new operating system upgrade was announced, which allowed the VS-2480 to use the new VS8F-3 Plug-in effects board.
