TIP 87: Finding Elusive Page Errors with the Outline Editor

If there's a red bug icon in the Status column for a page in your Site window, you probably have a broken link or missing image that needs to be fixed. Open the page with the error, make sure Link Warnings is enabled in the toolbar, and the obvious errors should appear with a red highlight.

However, there are times when the errors aren't as easy to locate. You might have a broken link to a deleted style sheet, an old component, or a missing single-pixel GIF that's very hard to see in the Layout Editor.

Switch to the Outline Editor and toggle the Link Warnings icon in the toolbar, and obscure errors such as missing single-pixel GIFs are instantly revealed and highlighted in the outline (Figure 87).

After you've found the error, you can fix it in the Outline Editor or select it and switch to the Layout or Source Code Editors and make the correction there.
