TIP 85: Working with the Outline Editor

The Outline Editor in GoLive is a unique and powerful feature that makes tedious Web-authoring tasks a breeze and helps ensure better quality code. There are lots of cool things you can do in the Outline Editor, but the essence of this mode is that it displays a fast and easy-to-use structural view of the markup of a document (Figure 85).

However, the Outline Editor isn't just a pretty way to look at your code. It's also a great way to edit and add to your pages. If you ever need to troubleshoot a complex page or streamline some deeply nested tables, you'll love the Outline Editor. To add to pages in the Outline Editor, just drag and drop items from the Objects palette to the appropriate location in the outline.

The Outline Editor is also a great way to learn about source code within a structured editing environment, which minimizes the tedium and mistakes of hand coding. You can study anything from the structure of tables to the attributes of images. This is a powerful tool for trainers teaching HTML basics and Web-design fundamentals.
