TIP 76: Creating iFrames

What is the first object in the Frame set of Objects , and why can't you drag it into your frameset? That, friends, is no ordinary frame. It's an inline frame, better known as an iFrame, and it's not used in a frameset, but to create a frame right inside a regular HTML page. iFrames are neat because they can be placed anywhere on your page, giving the effect of a virtual window.

iFrame or iDon't frame

Some older browsers do not support iFrames, so be sure to know your audience and test pages using iFrames in target browsers.

To create an iFrame, open a page in Layout mode and drag the iFrame object in. An iFrame can be placed into a layer, a table cell, or anywhere else in a page (Figure 76).

Designate the page that will load into the iFrame using the Source field of the Inspector or by dragging a page from the Site window and dropping it onto the iFrame. In the Inspector, set options such as the height, width, or alignment of the iFrame. Add a margin if desired by entering pixel dimensions into the Margin fields or enable the Border checkbox if you'd like a border to show around the iFrame.
