TIP 73: Troubleshooting Pages with Highlights

The Highlight feature is an incredibly powerful feature that can help you in so many different ways it's impossible to list them all here. Open a Web page, open the View palette, and switch to the Highlight section (Figure 73). You can also enable many of the Highlight options from the View > Highlight submenus.

Highlight is an easy way to toggle Link Warnings and run the Syntax Checker , but it does so much more than that. For example, the Elements pull-down menu shows you an alphabetical list of every element used in the page. Select an element, and all instances of that tag are highlighted in your page. You can even select multiple elements and get a complete count of all occurrences.

Another great way to use Highlight is to quickly and easily locate CSS usage in a page. Open a page in GoLive and select a CSS class or ID from the CSS pull-down menu to instantly highlight the styled objects.

Highlight also has a pull-down menu labeled Special that includes a variety of helpful items you might want to highlight in a page. One of our favorite options in this menu is JavaScript Actions, which quickly shows how many GoLive actions are in a page and where they are located.

Twirl down the Colors section of the palette and you can adjust the highlight color, opacity, and style for anything from link and syntax warnings to locked and editable regions. Check out the other options, and you'll find all sorts of cool uses for highlighting.
