TIP 67: Editing Swatches with the Color Picker

For the first time ever, GoLive CS2 allows you to edit color swatches with the standard Adobe color picker. This is the same color picker from Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator that users have loved for years, and it's a welcome addition. Create a new swatch by clicking the new icon at the bottom of the Swatches palette. Then click the Pencil icon in the bottom left corner of the Swatches palettes to enable Edit mode and double-click on any of the swatches to open the color picker (Figure 67a).

Inside the color picker dialog you can mix color with the HSB, RGB, or Lab color models and you can even mix in CMYK if you're trying to match a Web site to a printed piece. If you want to limit the colors to the 216-color Web Safe palette (see Tip 68), just click the Only Web Colors option in the bottom left corner of the dialog. If you want to mix several swatches in this dialog, click the Add to Swatches button for each new color so you can leave the color picker open as long as you want.

When you're done mixing your colors with the color picker, click OK. Before you move on, make sure to notice that you can also give your new swatches custom names. While you're still in Edit mode, you can select a swatch in the Swatches palette and assign a name in the Name field (Figure 67b).
