TIP 56: Rearranging Tables

Sorting table data alphabetically or numerically is a big time saver, but sometimes you just need to rearrange entire sections of a table. For example, you might want to move the price column to the far right of a table or the part number column to the far left.

To rearrange table columns or rows, select them and drag them by the small black handle in the upper left corner of the selection. The key to rearranging table content is seeing the thick black lines between rows or columns that indicates the drag location (Figure 56). You can also rearrange multiple rows and columns after you select them (see Tip 52). This feature even works on multiple cells as long as they are adjacent.

Figure 56. Rearranging tables is as easy as drag and drop.

To make a copy of your selection, drag it to a different area of the page outside the table. This drag and drop technique works in the Table & Boxes palette like it does in the Layout Editor.
