TIP 231: Comparing Two Different Versions

You may want to compare two versions of a document to determine exactly what has changed between them. To do so, follow these easy steps:

1.

Select the page in the Files list of the Site window.

2.

Click the Versions button in the Version Control toolbar or choose Site > Version Control Systems > Versions.

3.

When the Versions window opens, select the two versions you want to compare and click the button marked Compare Selected Versions… (Figure 231a).

So Many Differences

If there are a number of differences between the two versions of the file, you can use the Previous Difference and Next Difference buttons in the Compare Versions dialog box to examine each difference individually.

A window will open showing the source code of the two documents side-by-side. To hone in more easily on only the changed bits, enable the checkmark next to Hide Identical Lines. By keeping Synchronized Scrolling on, both pages will scroll together when you are looking through the code (Figure 231b).
