TIP 176: Detaching Placed Text Components

When you place text from an InDesign Package, the copy is used in GoLive as an XML component. This makes long-term content management and updates much easier, but it also makes it difficult to edit or stylize the text in GoLive.

To break the connection between the component and the InDesign Package, select the component in the Layout Editor and choose Special > Component > Detach Selected Component (Figure 176). Now you can edit and stylize the text in GoLive, but if you repackage the InDesign layout, this detached text doesn't update automatically.

Figure 176. Detach a component and you can edit and stylize the text as much as you want.

If you don't need or want the automatic updating of Package contents, select Special > Component > Detach All Components to break the connection of every component on the open page.
