TIP 100: Hiding Page Backgrounds in a PDF

Web pages with background images usually don't print very well, and the readability of text is often diminished, especially with black and white printers. To minimize ink waste and maximize readability of printed PDFs, you can check the Remove Backgrounds option in the Inspector when you create PDF files (Figure 100).

Checking the Remove Backgrounds option ignores background images and colors for tables, table cells, layers, and entire pages. It even affects background images and colors defined with CSS. The backgrounds are replaced with white to highlight the content and remove distractions. Just imagine how much ink you'll save by not making your printer print out your colored page backgrounds.
