Multiple access is a technique used to make best use of the transmission medium. In multiple access, multiple terminals or users share the bandwidth of the transmission medium. In this chapter, we study the various multiple access techniques. Multiple access attains much importance in radio communications because the radio spectrum is a precious natural resource, and to make best use of the radio bandwidth is important. We discuss the various multiple access techniques with illustrative examples.
