In this chapter, we took an end-to-end look at the tools and capabilities of the Team Foundation source control system. We presented the architecture of the server-side aspects and discussed how Team Foundation leverages Windows and SQL Server to provide an eminently reliable and scalable infrastructure for source control services. We described the basic concepts behind source control and investigated how Team Foundation delivers on those essentials. In addition, we painted a picture of the powerful suite of tools that Visual Studio Team System users have at their disposal for handling policy compliance, branching and merging, and source management. We also examined how to use the source control tools for a variety of tasks:
Because all these tools are integrated into the Visual Studio IDE, and because the source control system itself is integrated into the larger concepts of process management, Team Foundation source control truly provides a seamless experience with the rest of the project development tasks and activities. |
