Chapter 11: CSS2

 <  Day Day Up  >

Overview

The CSS1 specification provides a great deal of support for text, colors, backgrounds, borders, and other basic visual elements. However, using only CSS1, Web designers would still have to rely on table-oriented markup to lay out a page grid. Besides being messy, this doesn't help to separate page structure from page presentation. With CSS-based positioning ”initially introduced as CSS-P and then rolled into CSS2 ”we now have all the tools we need to eliminate markup as our primary page design technology. Despite the essential nature of CSS2's facilities, CSS2 is presented as a distinct chapter because support for it is inconsistent even in modern browsers.
