Using Outlook Mobile Access to Exchange Server 2003

 <  Day Day Up  >

With either a Web-enabled mobile phone or the Openwave Mobile SDK emulator in front of you, you can now begin to navigate the OMA interface to Exchange 2003. As noted earlier, because OMA is a real-time Web-access tool and not a synchronization tool, the only prerequisite to running the OMA is to have a mobile phone or emulator that has Internet connectivity.

With Internet connectivity, a user enters the Web URL http://{ servername }/OMA . When OMA is accessed on the Exchange server, the user sees a screen similar to the one shown in Figure 24.12. The user can move around the menu and select to view a message in the Inbox, Calendar, Contacts, or Tasks; search the directory; compose a new message; or change preferences.

When a user selects the Inbox, the mobile phone establishes a connection with the Exchange 2003 server and displays a list of inbox mail headers. The user can select a message and choose to open it. The mobile phone establishes a connection to the Exchange 2003 server and downloads the message.

Users can also choose to open the calendar and select a day they wish to view calendar appointments. When a day is selected, the phone makes a call to the Internet, and OMA retrieves the calendar appointments for the given day and displays it on the screen, as shown in Figure 24.13.
