Best Practices

 <  Day Day Up  >

The following are best practices from this chapter:

  • Choose the right mobile solution for the right user . No one solution fits all.

  • Organizations where users might need extensive email and attachment viewing might consider using a Pocet PC-enabled device.

  • Emulators, such as the Pocet PC or the Openwave mobile phone, are easy to set up and can test the functionality of Exchange 2003 mobility without the addition of specialized hardware devices.

  • When choosing a mobile access method, a user who frequently uses a mobile phone for communications and wants to limit the number of devices carried around should consider the HTML-Web “based access to Exchange 2003 information.

  • Organizations might find that users who currently carry around three to four devices, such as a mobile phone, pager, PDA, and wireless email system, can consolidate to a single Pocet PC mobile phone device that satisfies several needs.

  • An organization should not open the pilot testing use of Exchange 2003 mobility devices to all employees, but rather test the functionality with a handful of employees who can then build on best practices of the organization and implement the mobile solution immediately throughout the organization.

  • Use Pocet PC devices to replace more expensive tablet PC devices or proprietary pen-based systems that require custom programming. Pocket PC devices can leverage standard Microsoft Word forms and Microsoft Access data entry systems.

  • Users who have a mobile phone, PDA, pager, and wireless email device, such as Blackberry, might find that a Pocet PC device can provide at least as much functionality.
