Using Exchange 2003 As an Email and Calendaring Solution

Exchange Server 2003 is a versatile messaging system, one that meets the needs of a variety of different business functions. Like earlier versions of Exchange, Exchange Server 2003 can provide all the basic email and calendaring functionality, but now it offers a lot more. An example of the Outlook 2003 client in Exchange 2003 is shown in Figure 1.1.

Because Exchange Server 2003 provides a variety of different functions, an organization should choose how to best implement Exchange Server 2003 and the various messaging features to meet the needs of the organization. In small network environments with less than 50 users, an organization may choose to implement all the Exchange Server 2003 features on a single server. However in larger environments, multiple servers may be implemented to improve system performance and provide fault tolerance and redundancy.
