Q&A

Q1:

I don't like the new mail alert popping up when the new message is spam or is a message that will be moved out of my inbox. I know I can turn it off in Options, but I'd like to see the alert for messages that aren't processed by rules. How can I do that?

A1:

Go ahead and disable the alert in Tools, Options, Preferences tab, E-mail Options, Advanced E-mail Options, and then set up a new rule to display the alert:

  1. Open Rules and Alerts and choose N ew Rule.

  2. Select the Start from a Blank Rule option and click Next.

  3. Click Next to apply the rule to all messages not handled by other rules.

  4. Select Display a Desktop Alert as your action and Finish the rule.

  5. Move your new rule to the bottom of the rules list, using the blue arrow on the toolbar.

  6. Add the Stop Processing More Rules action to your other rules.

You new rule runs only on messages that remain in the inbox and that don't meet the conditions used in other rules.

Q2:

I used Organize, Using Colors to highlight some messages, but when I moved them to a new folder, the color was gone. How can I get the color back?

A2:

Colors applied using automatic formatting are views. As long as the view is used on the folder, your messages will be colored in any folder.
