In this chapter, you displayed randomly selected quotations on a page, but more importantly, you learned techniques that you ll be able to use in many Web applications how to read from a text file, how to code defensively around operations that are prone to error, and how to cache values in server memory between round trips. You also added to your stock of string-handling skills.
In the next chapter, you re going to combine specific techniques you learned in Chapter 6 (using cookies to store users preferences) and in this chapter (handling text files) and apply those techniques to the entertaining task of displaying a hit counter on your page.
