System Requirements

Creating programmed Web pages requires a certain set of components. As a minimum, you need:

• Windows XP Home Edition, Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional, or Windows .NET Server 2003.

  Unfortunately, it s not practical to create the Web pages in this book using Windows 98, Windows Me, or Windows NT 4.

• Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 or later.

• The Microsoft .NET Framework.

• Web Matrix.

• A local copy of Microsoft SQL Server 7 (Service Pack 2), SQL Server 2000, or Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000).

If you want to host a Web site on your local computer, you also need Internet Information Services (IIS), which is part of Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional, and Windows .NET Server 2003.
