Appendix B.  Superdome Virtual Partitions

We can use Ctrl-A to toggle between the four vPars on the console in the nPartition in which we're working. The console on the core I/O card at 5/0/0 in our nPartition is configured as part of vPar bvvpard2. Figure B-2 shows using Ctrl-A to toggle between the vPars using the console:

Figure B-2 shows hitting Ctrl-A four consecutive times in order to switch the vPars virtual console between our four vPars, named intappd2, bvvpard2, bvvpard1, and extappd2. As covered earlier in the book, when you switch between vPars with Ctrl-A you are supplied with the name of the console-connected vPar in brackets.

Since each of the vPars has a LAN card associated with it, we can connect with Telnet to any of the vPars over the network as well as using the console in Figure B-2.

Keep in mind that the console we're using is for the entire Superdome complex. We selected the nPartition in which our four vPars are configured and then switched between the vPars with Ctrl-A.

We connect to the GSP of the Superdome complex using the IP address of the GSP. When we log in to the GSP, the top screen in Figure B-3 appears. We then issue CO, which produces a list of consoles for the nPartitions in the Superdome as shown on the bottom of Figure B-3:

When we select the nPartition in which our vPars are configured, we are given console access to the nPartition and we can switch between the vPars as we did in Figure B-2. The console-related work in Superdome requires you to first select the nPartition in which you want to work and then issue Ctrl-A to switch between vPars. When working with the console, Ctrl-B brings you to the GSP main menu.

The environment we ended up with after configuring the four vPars looks like that shown in Figure B-4:

Although the Superdome vPars software used in this appendix is new, prerelease software, it operates in the Superdome environment in the same way it operates on other systems. The commands work in the same manner on all systems, and the vPars operation is consistent.
