Many HP 9000 systems running HP-UX 11i support partitions. At the time of this writing, however, partitions were just emerging as an advanced technology and I did not have access to any systems supporting partitions. The two partition types supported on HP 9000 systems running HP-UX 11i are hard (nPartition) and Virtual Partitions (vPars), covered throughout this book. At the time of this writing, hard partitions are available on Superdome and the rp8400 systems and consist primarily of hardware components that are combined to form the hard partition. The vPars we've been working with throughout this book at the command line are, or will soon be, available on all HP 9000 systems.
