Introduction

Since this is a "how to" book I'll focus on some commonly performed Logical Volume Manager (LVM) procedures in the first part of this chapter. In the Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) section I'll provide an overview of VxVM focusing on its fine graphical interface. The following is a summary of what I'll cover:

  • Veritas Volume Manager overview

  • Logical Volume Manager (LVM) - You will probably be using LVM to manage the data on your system. I provide LVM background in this section.

  • Example of adding XP 256 disks to your system using LVM.

  • Example of Using LVM to Reconfigure Disks - I include an example of a complex disk reconfiguration performed on a real system to show how many LVM commands are used. Although this disk reconfiguration may not be required on your system(s), it is a good example of using LVM commands.

  • Some Additional File System Commands.
