Summary

The Transition phase is the culmination of the work that you did in the first three phases of the project. This is when you deliver the software release to your customers. On small, simple projects the Transition phase can be very short. You want to strive for as short a Transition phase period as possible to keep the customer expectations of the software product in line with what you deliver.

Whether you have a simple or complex Transition phase, you must plan for it and execute to that plan. Perhaps more than any other phase, the Transition phase requires planning and monitoring the plan. Project managers earn their money during the Transition phase. As projects grow, there are increasing avenues of communication and coordination the project manager must manage.

PSP Tools had a short Transition phase period. We addressed user documentation needs with our User's Guide . We ensured that the end users received appropriate training. We performed final testing, integration, and packaging and deployed the software to the customers. Finally, we made sure that the customers had a way to report feedback and problem reports to the team.
