11.7. Burning a QuickTime Movie CD If your QuickTime slideshow lasts more than a minute or two, it's probably too big to send to people by email. One alternative: Burn them a CD. Here's how the process goes: -
Prepare your QuickTime movie . Since file size isn't as much of an issue, you can make your slideshow dimensions 640 x 480, 720 x 480, 800 x 600, or any other size that will fit on the computer screen. There's no need to throttle down the music quality, either.
Tip: To make things easy for the audience (even if it's only you), you can turn on the Auto Play feature, which will make the movie play immediately after being double-clicked. (Savings: One click on the triangular Play button.)To turn on Auto Play, start by opening the movie in QuickTime Player Pro. Choose Window  Show Movie Properties. In the Properties dialog box, click the Presentation tab, and then turn on "Automatically play movie when opened." Save the movie as usual.
Put a blank CD in your burner . A few seconds after you insert the disc, it appears on your desktop as "untitled CD." You can rename it by clicking its name and then typing away. -
Drag the QuickTime movie(s) onto the CD's icon . These are, of course, the slideshow movies you've exported from iPhoto or the video clips from your digital camera. -
Click once on the CD icon and then choose File Burn Disc . A confirmation dialog box appears (Figure 11-8). Figure 11-8. You have one last chance to change your mind before you burn the CD. If everything's a go, then click Burn.  -
Click Burn . The Mac saves the movies onto the CD. When the process is complete, eject the disc. It will play equally well on Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, and Windows computers that have QuickTime Player installed. By the way, if your Mac has Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or later, another approach is to choose File New Burn Folder from the File menu. A new folder called Burn Folder appears on your desktop. Name it anything you want, then drag your movies inside. Now open the folder and click on the Burn button in the upper-right corner. The Mac asks for a blank CD, and then walks you through the process of burning it.
Tip: If you have the software called Toast Titanium (www. roxio .com), an additional option awaits. You can drop the icon of your exported iPhoto slideshow movie into Toast's Video pane.Then, if you choose the VideoCD option, Toast will burn you what's known as a Video CD . It's something like a low-rent, low-quality DVD. It will play on most modern DVD players, thus offering a handy way for computer-less people to watch your slideshow on TV.Of course, if your fans have DVD players, you might have even more fun making a full-blown, commercialstyle DVD for them, as described in Chapter 12. The beauty of VCD discs, though, is that you don't need a Mac with a SuperDrive (DVD burner) to create one.
