Note | HSQLDB is an Open Source project. Releases are very irregular, but development seems to be continuing. The version included on the CD-ROM (version 1.7.1) has been thoroughly tested with these programs. You can always get the latest version from hsqldb. sourceforge .net, but obviously I can't guarantee that it will work with this code. Feel free, though, to play with newer versions if you feel adventurous. Once you download the ZIP file, open the downloaded version in WinZip, then proceed to Step 10.1(f). |
Note | If you are using an extraction tool other than WinZip, then use that tool to extract the files from the ZIP file into C:\Program Files\SQL. Be sure to use folder names when extracting the files. Once the files have been extracted, you may continue directly to Step 10.2. |
If you are using WinZip to extract and install the included software, follow these steps.
q 10.1(a) Insert the CD-ROM included with this book into your CD-ROM drive.
q 10.1(b) Start WinZip.
At this point, if the "Tip of the Day" comes up, close it.
q 10.1(c) Double-click on the Software folder.
q 10.1(d) Double-click on the HSQLDB folder.
q 10.1(e) Double-click on the file hsqldb_1_7_1.zip.
I've also included a file hsqldb_devdocs.zip, which contains documentation. It's not necessary at this time to open that file. You can extract the documentation some other time as you see fit.
Double-clicking hsqldb_1_7_1.zip will return you to a display of the contents of the hsqldb_1_7_1.zip file, as shown in Figure 10.5.
q 10.1(f) Click the Extract button.
q 10.1(g) In the Extract to: field, type 'C:\Program Files\SQL'.
q 10.1(h) Be sure 'Use folder names' is checked, and click Extract.
You'll see a window like the one in Figure 10.7 while the tool extracts the files.
When the extraction is finished, the status window will disappear, and you'll be returned to the primary WinZip window, as in Figure 10.8.
q 10.1(i) Close the WinZip tool.
