Step 4: The Resource Perspective

In the last chapter, I noted that everything in Eclipse is done through the workbench, your view of the world. However, that view can be customized and personalized ”fine- tuned to exactly what you need when you need it. That's the job of the perspective and its components : the views and editors.

Review

Figure 4.1 is the same as Figure 3.1. It shows an "exploded" view of the workbench. As I noted in Step 3, this happens to be the default perspective, the Resource perspective, which treats all resources as text files.

Interestingly enough, for this step you will remain entirely within the central section of the workbench, the views. The way Eclipse is designed, you can usually do the majority of your work without ever having to use the main menu bar or tool bar. In this step, I'll walk you through creating a trivial test project.
