Using the Loop Browser in Column View

You can also search for loops using columns instead of buttons. To change the view to columns, all you need to do is click the Column View button in the lower-left corner of the Loop Browser.

1.

Click the Column View button to change the Loop Browser to Column view.

The buttons disappear and are replaced by empty columns.

Let's try to find the cowbell loop again, this time using the Column view.

2.

Click By Instruments in the first column.

The Instruments column appears with many instrument choices.

3.

Scroll down through the Instruments column until you see Cowbell.

4.

Select Cowbell from the Instruments column.

A Cowbell column appears to the right, listing different cowbell sounds sorted by descriptors.

Each descriptor in the Cowbell column lists three different cowbell loops. Based on the consistency of the number three, I would guess there are a total of three different cowbell loops that are all grouped together under each different descriptor.

5.

Select any of the descriptors in the Cowbell column to reveal the cowbell loops in the results column.

Interesting. When you went searching for cowbell loops using the buttons and then refined your search, you found only one cowbell loop. However, when you searched using the Column view, you found three.

The moral of this cowbell search story is that sometimes the results will vary depending on which method you use to search. The Column view allowed you to find loops that sound like a cowbell but don't have the word "cowbell" in the name. Using the Button view, you had no idea which loops sounded like a cowbell without listening to them all.

Feel free to experiment with the Loop Browser on your own time. Meanwhile, let's audition the cowbell loops to find one that might work with this song.
