Exporting a QuickTime Movie

When you export a Motion project as a QuickTime movie, you can include the entire duration of the project or just the play range. You also can choose whether to include video or audio or both in the QuickTime movie file.

To export a project, you start by choosing File > Export to open the Export window.

Let's export the entire 11-1 Air Show Open project as a QuickTime movie.

1.

Choose File > Export or press Cmd-E to open the Export window.

The Export window drops down from the title bar; the project name appears in the Save As field.

2.

Select the Desktop as your destination; then change the name to Air Show Open.

In the lower portion of the Export window, you can specify the type of export file you want to create, using the Kind, Export Preset, and Include pop-up menus.

The default setting is a QuickTime movie using the project's preset (DV NTSC Movie) and including video and audio. The Use play range check box at the bottom of the window allows you to export the play range rather than the entire project. In this case, we want to export the entire project as a QuickTime movie, so we'll use the default settings.

3.

Click the Export button to export the project as a QuickTime movie.

Once you click the Export button, Motion begins to render each frame to create a QuickTime movie. An export progress window appears to show you the status of your export.

That's it. Let's hide Motion and find the new Air Show Open movie on your Desktop.

4.

Press Cmd-H to hide Motion.

5.

Locate the Air Show Open.mov QuickTime file on your Desktop, and double-click the file to open it in QuickTime.

6.

Press the spacebar to play the movie with the QuickTime Player.

7.

Press Cmd-Q to quit QuickTime.

8.

Press and hold down the Command key, then tap Tab to see the open applications. Press the Tab key until you select the Motion application. Release the Command key to unhide Motion.

You can use Cmd-Tab to toggle between any open application in Mac OS X.

Now that you've seen how easy it is to export a QuickTime movie, let's try exporting a still image.
