What You ve Learned

What You've Learned

  • Audio controls, including Level and Pan, are located on the Audio tab of the Project pane and on the Audio Editor tab of the Timing pane.

  • The Level control adjusts the perceived volume of an audio file and always imports at a relative level of 0 dB. The lowest audio level is 96 dB (silence), and the highest (loudest) audio level is 6 dB.

  • The Pan control adjusts the left and right placement of the sound in the stereo field. The default value is 0, which is centered, or equal sound from both the left and right speakers. A Pan value of 100 pans all the way to the left speaker, and a value of 100 pans all the way to the right speaker.

  • The Master audio controls on the Audio tab can be used to change the Level and Pan values for the overall project.

  • Audio parameters are displayed in the Audio Editor as Level and Pan curves. These curves are dotted lines on a graph and represent the parameter values over time.

  • A keyframe is a specific value on the curve at a specific frame in the timecode. You can set keyframes along the parameter curves in the Audio Editor by choosing Add Keyframe from the keyframe pop-up menu or double-clicking the curve in the Audio Editor.

  • The Audio Editor in the Timing pane shows only the audio parameters, while the Keyframe Editor shows curves for all parameters.

  • You can show keyframes in the Timeline by clicking the Show/Hide Keyframes button.

  • You can add keyframes to virtually any parameter in the Inspector by adding keyframes with the individual parameter keyframe pop-up menus. You can also record keyframes with the Record button in the transport controls.

  • When the Record keyframes feature is on, Motion records keyframes for any parameter change at the current playhead position.
