Applying a Fade to the Upper Object

You've finished moving and resizing all of project elements in the Timeline. Now let's apply a Fade In/Fade Out behavior to the USFPG logo object to create a 1-second (30 frame) fade-out at the end of the clip. The USFPG logo overlaps the 22A logo by 1 second, so you'll be able to use the fade to see both objects at the same time.

1.

In the Timeline, select the USFPG logo clip; then click the Add Behavior icon in the toolbar and select Basic Motion > Fade In/Fade Out from the pop-up menu.

A purple Fade In/Fade Out region appears below the USFPG logo clip in the Timeline.

2.

Press D to open the Fade In/Fade Out Dashboard; then drag the parameters in the Dashboard so the Fade In value is 0 frames and the Fade Out value is 30 frames.

3.

Move the playhead to 5;15 in the Timeline to see both objects simul taneously.

The 5;15 position is halfway through the 1-second fade, so the upper clip is at 50 percent opacity, allowing you to see both logos at the same time.

4.

Press Cmd-S to save your progress.

Transforming the Lower Object

Now that you can see both objects, let's change the position and scale properties of the A object to match the image of the globe.

You will be able to manipulate the A object in the Canvas more easily if you close the Timing pane.

1.

Select the A object in the Timeline, if it's not already selected.

2.

Press Cmd-7 to close the Timeline tab and the Timing pane.

3.

Press Option-Z to resize the frame in the Canvas to 100 percent.

The Option-Z method allows you to see the empty space around the edge of the frame, while the Shift-Z method fits the frame to the Canvas window, without showing any empty space.

4.

In the Canvas, drag the A object to the center of the globe image.

The globe is not centered in the frame exactly, so the Dynamic Guides will not show you the exact center of the globe. Use your best spatial judgment to align the A over the center of the globe.

NOTE

If you're having trouble moving the object exactly where you want to because of the Dynamic Guides, you can turn them off in the View pop-up menu located at the upper right of the Canvas.

Now it's time to change the scale of the A object to match the globe image.

5.

Option-Shift-drag any corner of the A object to transform the scale from the center of the object. Your goal is to make the A object the same size as the globe image.

You may need to move the object a little to change the center if you were off a bit originally. Tweak until the images are perfectly aligned in the Canvas.

6.

Press Cmd-S to save your progress.

7.

Press the spacebar to play the project and see the transition between the first two logos.

Not bad. In fact, the transition between the globe and the A looks pretty good. All it needs are some particles to liven it up a bit.
