Changing the Life Parameter in the Inspector

Did you notice that the particles are now vanishing (dying) before they exit the upper-right corner of the frame? That is because moving the emitter toward the left extended the distance that the particles now have to travel before they can exit the upper-right corner of the frame. No problem. All you need to do is extend the Life parameter to give them time to make the entire journey. Let's change the Life parameter in the Inspector.

1.

In the Inspector, drag the Life slider toward the right to change the value to 5 (5 seconds).

The Life value in the Emitter Dashboard changes to 5.00 to reflect the change in the Inspector, and the particles now live long enough to safely exit the upper-right corner of the frame.

Now let's change the speed range for the particles so that some of the particles move faster than others.

2.

Drag the Speed Range slider to 10.00 so that the particles will travel within a range of 10 percent faster or slower than the original speed.

The particles travel at different speeds toward their final destiny beyond the upper-right corner of the frame.

The Angle and Spin parameters adjust the angle of the particles and how much they spin during their short but interesting lives. You'll work with those parameters later in this lesson.
