Motion comes with 100 filters, which are organized into categories: Blur, Border, Color Correction, Distortion, Glow, Keying, Matte, Sharpen, Stylize, Tiling, Time, and Video.
You can view the effects of the various filters in the Preview area of the Library.
You can apply a filter to an object by using the drag-and-drop method, by selecting the object and clicking the Apply button in the Library, or by using the Add Filters pop-up menu in the toolbar.
The Color Picker tool in the Colors window allows you to select a specific color from anywhere on the computer screen.
You can use the slider in the Colors window to lighten or darken the selected color.
To save the selected color in the Colors window, you can drag a chip from the color bar to the swatches area.
Complementary colors, which are opposite colors on the color wheel, can be used to attract attention.
You can copy and paste filters on the Layers tab using the Edit menu, keyboard shortcuts, or a contextual menu.
Keying filters are used to remove uniform color or brightness from an image to create transparency. The transparent part of an image is called the alpha channel.
You can also create transparency on an object or layer by using masks. Masks can be created with Mask tools or applied as image masks.
The Simple Border filter can be applied to an object to add a border. You can then modify the width and color of the border in the Inspector or Dashboard.
