Choosing Complementary Colors

Your goal in this exercise is to select a complementary color for the second watch object. What is a complementary color? Complementary colors come in pairs that are located directly across from each other on the color wheel. All complementary color pairs contain one primary and one secondary color.

Together, each primary pair uses all three primary colors, yet the two elements contrast because they share no common color. At the most basic level, complementary color pairs are red and green, yellow and purple, and blue and orange.

How do you find a complementary color? Easyall you need is the color wheel. If you draw a straight line from your selected color through the center of the color wheel, the color you arrive at on the opposite side is the complementary color. The complementary color for blue is orange, but depending on the shade of blue that you select, it may be closer to yellow.

Let's change the color of the Time Bomb watch to a yellow color that is complementary to the blue color of the Detonator watch.

1.

In the time_bomb Colorize Dashboard, click the Remap White To color well to open the Colors window.

2.

Locate the currently selected blue color (dot) on the color wheel.

3.

Click the opposite position on the color wheel, to select the complementary yellow color.

Complementary color for Detonator watch blue

The time_bomb object changes to a yellow color.

The complementary yellow color would also work nicely for the text in this project.
