Loading the Video Clip

Although you can apply this effect to an entire video clip, this effect works best when it is applied to only a part of a clip, such as a few seconds or even a single frame. The first thing you'll need to do is load the clip into your project from which you want to create a still image. You then apply the effect to that image. By the way, you can "stop the action" multiple times in a clip and apply this effect with great results. For example, if you're editing a wedding video, you could stop and have a "watercolor moment" the first time the bride and groom kiss, the first time they dance, and just as they leave the hall for their honeymoon.

Load your clip to the Timeline

Start Premiere Elements and create a new project called watercolor.

Click the Get Media from button on the Media panel to access the Get Media from view, if it's not already active.

Select DVD, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone, Hard Drive Camcorder, Card Reader.

When the Media Downloader displays, click the Advanced Dialog button to switch to Advanced mode.

Select the space_ship.avi clip for this project.

Click the Get Media button. Premiere Elements copies the space_ship.avi clip from the DVD onto your hard drive and adds it to the Available Media list for this project.

From the Media panel, drag the space_ship.avi clip to the Video 1 track on the Timeline.

Important

Be sure that the head (front end) of the space_ship.avi clip is at the front of the Video 1 track.

Tip

If you are in Sceneline view, just drop the clip onto the first scene placeholder.

For this project, we'll need to be in Timeline view because we are working with multiple clips on mulTiple video tracks. So, if the My Project panel is not already in Timeline view, click the Timeline button to switch.
