Adding a Paper Background

Adding a "Paper" Background

To really "seal the deal" in terms of making the video clip look like it's a pencil sketch, we'll add an effect that gives the illusion of a slight texture of paper to the video clip. To achieve this effect, we'll first bring in a bitmap image of textured paper. Then, in the step that follows, we'll use a built-in Premiere Elements effect to apply that paper texture to our video clip.

Add Paper for the Pen

For this project, we need to be in Timeline view because we are working with clips on multiple video tracks. If the My Project panel is not already in Timeline view, click the Timeline button (shown below) to switch.

Click the Get Media from button on the Media panel to access the Get Media from view, if it's not already active.

Select DVD, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone, Hard Drive Camcorder, Card Reader.

When the Media Downloader displays, click the Advanced Dialog button to switch to Advanced mode.

Select the drawingpaper.bmp clip.

Click the Get Media button. Premiere Elements copies the drawingpaper.bmp clip from the DVD onto your hard drive and adds it to the Available Media list for this project.

From the Media panel, select drawingpaper.bmp and drag it to the Timeline onto the Video 2 track so that the head (front) of the clip is at the very beginning of the track.

Grab the tail of the drawingpaper.bmp clip and stretch the clip so that it is the same length/duration as the pencil_house.avi clip on the Video 2 track.
