Adding Your Clip to the Timeline

Your first step will be to choose an appropriate clip. While you can apply the Pencil Sketch effect to virtually any clip, keep in mind that the effect can carry a positive emotional punch, too, and is best used when you want to create a sentimental mood. If you want to experiment with this effect before trying it with your own clips, we've provided you with a sample clip to use on the DVD that accompanies this book. It's called pencil_house.avi.

Add Your Clip to the Timeline

Start Premiere Elements and create a new project called pencilsketch.

Click the Get Media from button on the Media panel to access the Get Media from view, if it's not already active.

Select DVD, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone, Hard Drive Camcorder, Card Reader.

When the Media Downloader displays, click the Advanced Dialog button to switch to Advanced mode.

Select the pencil_house.avi clip.

Click the Get Media button. Premiere Elements copies the pencil_house.avi clip from the DVD onto your hard drive and adds it to the Available Media list for this project.

From the Media panel, select pencil_house.avi and drag it to the Timeline onto the Video 1 track so that the head (front) of the clip is at the very beginning of the track.

Tip

If you are in Sceneline view, just drop the clip onto the first scene placeholder.
