Adding Your Clip to the Timeline

We have provided you with a sample clip, running.avi, on the the DVD supplied with this book. Once you master this technique, you can apply it to any clip you have available. You want to use a clip with a good amount of action, such as someone sliding into second base (so you can show them sliding away from the base back into a standing position) or slipping off the parallel bars (so you can show them slipping back on), or pouring water over their head at the pool (so you can show the water being sucked back up into the pail)anything that will look interesting or comical in reverse.

Add a Good Clip to the Timeline

Start Premiere Elements and create a new project called reverseaction.

Click the Get Media from button on the Media panel to access the Get Media from view, if it's not already active.

Select DVD, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone, Hard Drive Camcorder, Card Reader.

When the Media Downloader displays, click the Advanced Dialog button to switch to Advanced mode.

Select the running.avi clip for this project.

Click the Get Media button. Premiere Elements copies the running.avi clip from the DVD onto your hard drive and adds it to the Available Media list for this project.

Select the running.avi clip on the Media panel and drag and drop it onto the Timeline in the Video 1 track. Be sure to line up the head of the clip with the start of the track (00;00;00;00).

Tip

If you are in Sceneline view, just drop the clip onto the first scene placeholder (as shown in the illustration).

For this project, we'll need to be in Timeline view because we are working with multiple clips on multiple video tracks. So, if the My Project panel is not already in Timeline view, click the Timeline button to switch.
