Making the Scrolling Text Scroll

If you press the Spacebar at this point, you'd be disappointed to see that your scrolling text, after all this work, doesn't actually scroll. This is because, while we have the right shape and the text is slowly getting smaller over time and so on, the text is only moving in space, it isn't actually scrolling. Do we need to apply some mysterious, little-known effect from the Premiere Elements bag of tricks to get this to work? Do we then need to tweak it in sophisticated ways? Not at all. All we need to do at this point is tell Premiere Elements that we want this text to roll, as it's called, tweak two simple settings, and we'll be, well, ready to roll.

Make the Text "Roll" Text

Double click Title 03, the scrolling text in the Video 4 track on the Timeline to open the text in the Titler.

Click the Roll/Crawl Options button to open the Roll/Crawl Options dialog box.

In the Roll/Crawl Options dialog box, select Roll.

In the Timing (Frames) area, click both of these boxes:

  • Start Off Screen

  • End Off Screen

Tip

When you click Start Off Screen, Preroll is disabled, and when you click End Off Screen, Postroll is disabled.

Click OK.
