Creating the Second Still

Now that we have our first snapshot cropped and colorized, let's continue along the clip and find a good frame for our second actor and take our next snapshot. The procedure for taking the snapshot, creating the shape with the Four-Point Garbage Matte, and colorizing the clip is exactly the same as for the first snapshot. The difference will be in the location of the matte and in the color that we choose (since we want each actor to have his or her own unique color).

Create the Snapshot

Move the CTI eight seconds to 00;00;18;00. This is the frame that we'll use as our second still "photograph."

Click the Freeze Frame button on the Monitor panel to access the Freeze Frame dialog box.

On the Freeze Frame dialog box, click the Insert in Movie button.

Did You Know?

You can paint by numbers. RGB refers to Red, Green, and Blue, a standard color format for online use. It uses two of the three primary colors on the color wheel, Red and Blue. Green is a combination of Yellow (the third primary color) and Blue. By mixing these colors much as you would paint, you can create virtually any color you can imagine. You "mix" your colors with the Color Balance (RGB) effect by changing the number for each color, from 0 to 200.

Modify the Shape

Click the Effects and Transitions button on the Media panel to switch to the Effects and Transitions view, if necessary.

In the Effects and Transitions view, type four in the text box.

Drag the Four-Point Garbage Matte effect and drop it onto the retro-title_FF_1.bmp clip on the Video 1 track (this is the second still clip on the Timeline).

Click the triangle next to Four-Point Garbage Matte on the Properties panel to reveal the effect's controls.

Make the following adjustments to the Four Point Garbage Matte.

  • Top Left:

275.0

0.0

  • Top Right:

375.0

0.0

  • Bottom Right:

375.0

Modify the Color

In the Effects and Transitions view of the Media panel, type rgb in the text box.

Drag the Color Balance (RGB) effect and drop it onto the retro-title_FF_1.bmp clip (the second freeze frame you created) on the Video 1 track on the Timeline.

In the Properties panel, click the triangle next to Color Balance (RGB) to reveal the effect's controls.

Make the following changes to the Color Balance (RGB) effect.

  • Red: 200

  • Green: 30

  • Blue: 130
